The World's Smallest V12 Engine is Available on AliExpress, with Less than 50 cc, Revving up to 11,000 RPM... and It Sounds Spectacular (+Video)
How much would you be willing to pay? Well, it might surprise you
There's something that truly fascinates us about miniature engines. Commonly used in remote-controlled applications, scale models, or as simple toys, at Motorsport Hackers, we've seen engines with extremely low displacement in configurations like V8, rotary, or four-cylinder. However, to date, we've never come across a fully functional V12 engine with such a low displacement. This one boasts just 49.98 cc, can rev up to 11,000 rpm, weighs a mere four kilograms, and can be paired with a four-speed sequential gearbox.
This engine is crafted by a Chinese company called Chuan Qi Precision, specializing in the development and manufacturing of miniature engines. Their debut product is named DSF-V12, and it's the star of this article. It's a liquid-cooled engine with two valves per cylinder, powered by a single carburetor – similar to that of a chainsaw. It uses 15W40 oil, and its twelve spark plugs are made of iridium. The engine features a starter motor and appears to start effortlessly, maintaining a stable, albeit high idle speed – its minimum rpm is 2,200.
The engine runs on regular gasoline, not alcohol or special gasoline. We don't have the exact power figures for this engine, but I doubt it surpasses 5 horsepower. Nevertheless, what stands out is the pleasing sound produced by this small engine and how easily its revs increase with manual control of its throttle. With a bit of imagination, you might even discern notes reminiscent of old Formula 1 engines. It's genuinely impressive. Keep in mind that the oil needs to be changed every 20 minutes of use, with the first three oil changes occurring every 10 minutes.
Like any engine, it requires a break-in period. Chuan Qi sells it on AliExpress, and optionally, you can pair it with a four-speed sequential gearbox. This gearbox is sequential, equipped with a conventional diaphragm clutch, and can be operated remotely. It has three power outputs, making it suitable for various radio-controlled applications. Think of boats, tanks... or even aircraft.
This unique engine costs 3,093 euros on AliExpress. If you want the complete kit with the four-speed sequential transmission, you'll need to add an extra 1,738 euros.
