Embrace the Freedom: Airports Join the Work-from-Anywhere Trend
Here's an interesting tidbit for those always on the move. It turns out that airports are becoming the next frontier for remote work.
If you've ever attempted a work call at an airport, you know it can be quite the challenge. The constant barrage of announcements, noisy passengers, and overall chaos make it less than ideal for productivity.
But fear not, as coworking companies have come to the rescue! They're setting up shop in airports to provide travelers with dedicated spaces for focused work. And they're doing it at a rapid pace – the number of airport workspaces has nearly doubled in the past year.
Here are some examples:
Minute Suites offers spaces in 10 US airports that can serve as offices or private rooms for a quick nap.
Jabbrrbox creates compact pods equipped with desks, charging stations, speakers, and mood lighting.
Beehive, a coworking company, operates spaces across Germany, including one with entire conference rooms in Hamburg Airport.
JustCo recently teamed up with Singapore's Changi Airport to launch Asia's first pay-per-minute airport coworking space.
Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport introduced a second Spaces facility, a coworking lounge complete with cubicles.
Airports are catching onto the coworking trend, and it's only just beginning. While WeWork's journey is often discussed with caution, the concept of creating functional spaces beyond our homes is gaining traction.
Other businesses are also jumping on the bandwagon, making sure you can work from virtually anywhere:
Convene transforms vacant office buildings, department stores, and apartments into flexible workspaces.
Soho House, known for its members-only social clubs, launched Soho Works, a workspace membership.
Equinox partnered with coworking company Industrious to open a workspace in New York's Hudson Yards.
With the global coworking market predicted to be valued at $50.1 billion by 2028, it seems like we're just scratching the surface.
The only drawback? Travel days can no longer serve as a valid excuse for missing those Slack messages from your boss. Happy travels and working from anywhere!
